Fax or E-mail the Key_Code to your dealer and the Application
Key will be faxedor E-mailed back to you. Type in the Key and press the OK
button. Alternatively,you can press Run as DEMO button. The program will be
launched in DEMO mode (with OpenFile, Insert and Xref functions
disabled). INDEPENDENT RUN
Double-click the DWG Explorer icon on the desktop or DwgExpl.exefile
in the Windows Explorer. The program window will appear on the screen (Fig. 2)
- Viewing a Directory
You can view the files in a selected directory out of any of the Explorer's
20pages marked by the tabs (Page 0, Page 1, ..., Page 19). To browse between the
pages,click the tabs and/or use the horizontal scroller on the right of the tab line.
- To select and pre-set the required directory,
press Browse button. Windowsfile box will appear. Select a directory to be viewed
and press OK button. Thefirst 12 files found in the selected directory will be
displayed as views in the DWGExplorer window, the first of them - as an
enlarged Current File view inthe right-hand part of the window. The file names are
written under the views. Under the CurrentFile, the file size and creation date are
additionally displayed.
Note: The default type of the files to be displayed
is DWG. While selectingthe directory, you may change this default to any other file
type, including ALL(*.*). DWT, SV$ and AutoCAD BAK files will
be displayed just as DWG.All the other file types will produce empty views. You will be
able to view the filenames, types, sizes and creation dates.
Note: The current version of DWG Explorer
displays only DWG filescreated with AutoCAD.
- To view any of the displayed drawings in greater
detail and to check its size& creation date, click its view with your pointing device.
This drawing will be set Current(the enlarged view).
- To scroll through the directories that contain
more than 12 files of the chosentype, use arrow buttons in the lower part of the window.
- To change the sorting rule for the displayed
files, use Sort By group ofradio-buttons in the lower right part of the window. The
files may be sorted by Name,Size or Creation Date.
- Managing Files
With DWG Explorer, you can copy, rename and delete the displayed
files,just as with Windows Explorer:
- Select the required file (click its view) and press an appropriate button
inthe lower part of the window.
- Copy and Rename options display the Windows file box with the
selectedfile highlighted. Complete operation in a regular Windows fashion.
- Delete option opens a confirmation box.
Press OK button to deletethe selected file.
- Opening Files while launching an application
You can open DWG and DWT files in the application of your choicestraight
from the DWG Explorer.
- To choose the CAD application for the
drawings to be opened in, press Linkto: button in the upper right part of the
window. Windows file box will appearprompting you to select the program file of the
required application. Select the file. Itsname and path will appear in the field adjacent
to the Link to: button.
- Double-click the view of the file you want
to open or press Open Filebutton to open the Current File.
- You can minimize the CAD application window
and open another file from the DWGExplorerTM. Each "open" operation will
invoke a separate session of the CADapplication.
- Miscellaneous Functions
- The name (tab) of an Explorer page can be customized with the use of the
CurrentPage text box in the upper right part of the window. Enter the new name in the box.
Thepage tab will change on-line. Any language is supported.
Note: Settings such as the directory and the file type
to be displayed, filesorting order and CAD application to open the files are saved by the
program for thecurrent page in an INI file. You may want to give the page (tab) a
meaningful name toeasily find it later and save time using the pre-set parameters.
- About window opens with some data on DWG
Explorerand other Tovna's applications. Web Order & Update button in
the lower part ofthis window brings you to Tovna's WWW site & shop with the use
of your defaultInternet browser.
- Layer option enables to define for
all the files in the currentlibrary a layer at which they will be inserted as blocks. The
Layer
button displaysSet Layer dialogue box (Fig. 3).
By default, Use Current Layer check-box is marked
and the layer selectionoptions are greyed out. With this setting, the blocks will be
inserted at the layerspecified as current in the current drawing. To change the default
setting, clear thecheck-box. The rest of the options will become active.

Enter the required layer name in the Layer Name
field. Any character notsupported by the AutoCAD naming conventions will be automatically
substituted by anunderscore.
Note: To avoid layer duplication, please check the
spelling of the layer name witha special care. Do not use the reserved name
"Current_layer".
Define the color for the layer in the Layer Color
look-up box (1 to 255,according to the AutoCAD standard). Click OK button to accept
the layer settings.Once accepted, they become valid for all files in the current
directory.
If, while inserting a block, the layer with the specified
name is found in the drawing,the color setting will be disregarded in favour of the one
already defined in the drawing.Should the specified layer be frozen, locked or turned off,
the program willthaw/unlock/turn it on and perform the block insertion. If the specified
layer does notexist in the drawing, it will be created and the block inserted at it.
LAUNCHING FROM WITHIN AUTOCAD
- To launch DWG Explorer from within AutoCAD session, type DWGX or
DWGEXPLin the Command Line. The Explorer's window (Fig. 2) appears.
- Most functions work in the same manner they do
when running the Exploreras an independent program. Link to: option is
disabled since AutoCAD is already chosen as the CAD application to open the files in.
Open
File option will open theselected file in the current AutoCAD session.
- Additional functions, unavailable while
running independently, are Insertand Xref. To use them, press the
corresponding buttons in the lower part of thewindow.
- Insert option inserts the selected
file as a block into the drawingcurrently opened in AutoCAD. The layer the block will be
inserted at is defined by the Layeroption of the program (see p. 3.5.3).
- Xref option inserts the
selected file as an ExternalReference into the drawing opened in AutoCAD (current layer).
